  • I'm from the Bahamas.  I couldn't beleive that there wa s place that served Bahamian Classics like Boiled Fish and Grits.  I went there, and it was just like going home.  The food was like my mom's (don't tell her I said that)!   - Tavernier, FL, April 2006
  • I'm a native Conch and have been cooking Key West food for over 60 years.  Eating at Big Daddy COnch's was like eating my own food in my own dining room.  It was that good!!  Key West, FL
  • I’m originally from Jamaica, and this food is just like home.  The Conch Fritters are better than in the Bahamas! – Gainsville, FL, April, 2006
  • The Cuban Roast Pork is like a tropical flavor explosion in your mouth.  Wow, I’ve never had anything like it.  Key West, FL, May, 2006
  • It’s true, it wouldn’t have been any better if I cooked this food myself.  I’m a life-long Key Wester, and I’ve been cooking this kind of food all my life.  Miss Joan really did it.  Key West, June, 2006
  • The conch salad is great tasting and it is a great option for those of us on low fat diets.  His is one of the few places we found in Key West where we could get great island food with many choices for the health conscious.  Minneapolis, MN, March, 2006
  • Cool place to eat.  The murals are really done well, and put you in a relaxed frame of mind.  The staff is friendly, and manager checked on us several times.  The food is incredible.  You can’t miss this place!!  Elgin, IL, May, 2006
  • I was in Key West a few months ago for 4 days and one of my objectives was to try as many of the restaurants as I could. Well needless to say, I went to Big Daddy Conch's on my second day and did not make it to any other restaurants during my stay, and wished that I had not gone to any others. There menu was satisfying for my entire stay. The cracked conch and conch fritters are the absolute best, along with everything else on the menu. When you are in Key West there is no need to go to any other restaurants to satisfy your appetite. Simply stated with the food and atmosphere Big Daddy Conch's is "The Best in Key West."  Tallahassee, FL, June 4, 2006
  • I normally don't write reviews but since the service and food was so extrordinary I feel compelled to... I've visited this establishment when it was called Crabby Bill's last year and to be honest it was not a great expierence the so called oyster $1.99 special wasn't so special they didn't taste fresh. the food was just average. I just got back yesterday and have to say that I'm glad that I looked in curious as to the new name, look and cusine.
The first thing I notice was that the oysters were no longer $1.99 and when I mentioned this they explained the difference in quality and freshness anfd that if I didn't agree that they were far superior then $1.99 there would be no charge. they were superb and I drank them down with a couple drinks of coconut water and gin. I returned later for dinner and had the conch fritters and boiled fish GREAT stuff. I predict that Big Daddy Conch's will soon be a force in the Key West with it's unique cusine and decor. Do yourself a favor and stop by you won't be sorry.  Indianapolis, IN, June 1, 2006
  • My wife and I discovered Big Daddy Conchs a few weeks ago & quickly adopted it as our favorite KW Restaurant. We found it by accident and liked the conch salad so much we've been back for it many times since then. BDC knows Conch, a knowledge that's hard to find. All their items are homemade, not pre-packaged. From their Conch Fritters, to Conch Chowder, and Cracked Conch, every item is mouth-watering. Their Cuban Items, like Cuban Pork, Palomilla Steak, and Ropa Vieja are all excellent...the best Cuban Pork I've found anywhere! Try their Pita Chips with Spinach dip. It's huge. It's beautiful. And it's delicious. One of the Bahamian dishes is Boiled Fish and Grits. It took us a while to get over the name, but we finally tried it when our bartender told us it's a great Sunday Brunch item. We loved it! The name does not do it justice. The portion is gigantic & the flavor is a unique combination of hot and sour from the broth that is set off by the sweet creaminess of the grits with butter. We discovered this is an old-school recipe that many people in Key West grew up eating in their own Mother's kitchen. If you want to experience a truely Key West culinary experience, you've got to put Big Daddy Conchs at the top of you list!  Key West, FL,  May 31, 2006

  • My family and I visited the island last year during the hurricane season, which turned out to be somewhat of a blessing in disguise as the island was relatively tourist free. We used the occasion to try some restaurants that were relatively unknown, and stumbled into Big Daddy Conchs. We all are familiar with the type food as served at the restaurant and figured that this would be an opportune time to revisit our culinary past, espicially in view of the reasonable prices. I must say that our expectations were far exceeded by the quality of the food that we ate at this restaurant. The food was excellent and perfectly seasoned in the style of the cuban and bahamian. The quality of the food could only be expained by the skill of the chef and the freshness of the ingredients. I must also admit that I was born and raised in the Florida Keys, so that this type of food is very familiar to me and my family. This review can be summarized by saying that if you are visiting the Florida Keys, treat yourself to what I believe is the most original and best tasting cub-bahamian food the island has to offer!  Key West, FL, May 30, 2006

  • This was my first trip to Key West and while strolling to Duval. I came upon upon this gem.
What caught my eye was the Cuban Bahamian cusine so me and the wife decided to try try it. First the interior was so relaxing with the murals and the staff was so friendly. I decided to try the cracked conch which was awesome then followed it with the Big Daddy Picadillo.

  • Let me tell you it was every bit as good as my Mom's who is Cuban (I hope she doesn't read this) My wife had the conch fritters which were light and tasty and the roast pork.
We decided to try the coconut water and rum WOW what a refreshing drink!!
Next time we visit Key West Big Daddy Conch's will be first on our eating list there are other dishes we can't wait to try. I hope the gift certificates will ready by July 4th which i was told would be available at BigDaddyConch My wife's parents will be there I would love to suprise them with a Great eating experience. Iwe would totally recommend
    Big Daddy Conch's !  New Jersey, May 30, 2006

  • The food was delicious! I especially loved the conch fritters that came with a dipping sauce that enhanced the flavor. I also sampled the cracked conch (tender and good), fried shrimp (fresh and juicy), and a Bahamian rice dish (cannot recall the name) that was very delicious. The ambiance was an island retreat with friendly staff and authentic island music. The menu consists of several items not available at other restaurants, as it incorporates specialty foods from different cultures. I look forward to dining at and meeting Big Daddy Conch on my next visit. Should you vacation in Key West, don't miss the experience - you will thoroughly enjoy!!  Tallahassee, FL, May 30, 2006
  • Big Daddy Conch Restaurant was a wonderful experience. There was great service, the food was DELICIOUS. I had Crawfish chalou with shrimp. The seasoning was great and so was everything else. There is also a beautiful mural. You should check it out fro yourself, I promise you will love it!!!  Tallahassee, FL, May 25, 2006
  • This was our first visit to Key West. We wanted to really experience the island culture. We ate at Sloppy Joes, but soon discovered that it was more hype than anything. So-so food, descent drinks and super loud music. We also tried El Mason De Pepe's for cuban food, but it was super high priced and the food was nothing to right home about (literally). We noticed a place with a very cool name across from Sloppy Joes called Big Daddy Conch's Cuban & Bahamian Food. We remembered we heard a woman named Miss Joan speaking on the radio about how she was responsible for the authentic Key West recipes used to prepare the food there. Sounded more authentic than what we had experienced so we tried it. This place was AWESOME!!! We didn't eat anywhere else for rest of our trip. The first time we visited we ordered conch salad, as we had heard this was as authentic Key West as there was (if you could get it made by natives). But we had also heard that in restaurants it is usually as tough as leather. Not at Big Daddy Conch's. The cocnh salad was tossed right in front of us at our table. It was fresh and ohhhhhh so tender. My wife and I ordered 4 more!!! We then had the Big Daddy Conch Cracked (fried conch steak) with shrimp and pigeon peas and rice, black beans and plantains. Holy Toledo it was to die for. The next day for lunch we had the conch steak sandiches which were spledid and washed them down with delicious mojitos. We came back for dinner and had to order the conch fritters for starters. They were so good, we again orderd a second then a third round. We tried the house specialty Gin and Coconut Water (we're told another authentic Key West item); very unique and delicious. Easy to drink and they go perfect with conch fritters. For the entree' I had the Poached Snapper and my wife had the Cuban Roast Pork. The Poached snapper was like nothing I've had. It was so tasty, with a salty sour sacue that mixed well with the grits - yeah you heard me grits. I'm told this meal is called boiled fish in the Bahamas and is traditional served with grits. Again - authentic. My wife said the cuban roast pork blew the El Meson de Pepe roast Pork out of the water - not even close. I could go on and on about the food, but the servce, atmosphere and entertainment were fatastic as well. We got fast freindly service, and a history lesson on Key West cuisine. It was interesting to find out that the cooking staff had actually learned this "Miss Joan's" recipes by training at her house for a few months!! That's heands on. The interior has painted mural walls all around of an island sunset scene. It is really cool. Then there is "RB" the main etntertainer. We would have liked hangning out there for the friendly atmosphere and great music even if the food wasn't as great as it is. My wife and I liked this place so much we wish we could open one where we live. This place is the best Key West has to offer, but since it is new, few know about it. THE BEST FOOD bar none, at reasonable prices. You can not go to Key West and not try Big Daddy Conch's especially if you really want to know what real Key West cusine is all about. I'm sure I've left out some details, but hopefully I've provided enough to convince you that you won't go wrong giving this place a try.  Minneapolis, MN, May 24, 2006

  • They just started serving Cuban Sandwiches, and already they are one of the best on the island.  Key West, FL, June 11, 2006

  • The General Manager, Craig, is awesome to work with.  Especially when organizing private parties.  We’ve done 500 person parties there the last 2 years and it’s one of the events our members look forward to every year because of the great staff and great food at Big Daddy Conch’s.  The also have one of the best Mojitos anywhere.  Pennsicola, FL, March, 2006
